Today is the first day of Summer and the last day of my time here at Awards and Trophies... quite a day to reflect upon.
It's with a bittersweet hand that I write my final blog post, as the best way I know how to say Thank You.
Annette and Russ gave me the opportunity to work for them when they heard I loved writing and editing (and that I am a Grammar freak!), and I will always be thankful to them for believing in me.
This is a fast-growing, forward-moving organisation full of hard-working people who accepted me into their working lives three years ago and taught me the ropes, forgiving my errors and being (mostly!) patient with my effervescent chatter...
Russ, Jeremy, Paul and Andre have been generous leaders, giving me scope to try new things and the flexibility to be a working Mum who needs to spend time with her children at (sometimes inopportune) times! Tuesday lunches as a team have been awesome, and may they long continue to help keep people focussed on working as a team.
We have worked hard, played hard, eaten a lot of Mentos and had some quality laughs, often at each others' expense. Our Tool of the Month Award has thankfully never arrived on my desk, but it has given us all a lot of fodder for teasing one another, which alleviates the stress in busy times.
My role has changed during my time here from Proofreader to Staff Writer/Social Media Pest/Proofer because my writing (and chatting) skills were recognised early and utilised, for the benefit of the business, and to be honest, for my benefit too. Because, let's face it, I love to write (and chat)!
My favourite job here was writing blog posts (150 OF THEM!) about customers and their awards. I saw very early on that every award has a story behind it, and every week, I came across delightful tales of courage, bravery, excellence and resilience that were all worth shouting out about. I would like to thank those customers who let me tell and share their amazing tales.
Writing blogs about my colleagues was also a highlight, because it was great to find our more about my co-workers, and understand their extracurricular skills and qualities that often go unnoticed in a busy work environment.
I have seen three 'Busy Seasons' which have been a challenge we have all risen to each year - our customers continue to be delighted by the services and products we provide for them, and it's been a privilege to have been part of that.
My Christmas wish this year is that the Awards and Trophies team get a really good break to relax and reflect on their huge efforts this year, by spending quality time with loved ones and doing exactly what they want, when they want!
Oh, and that next year, Paul gets more Fantails and less Mentos...
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity you have given me to be a part of this business and your lives!
ps As the staff writer, I wrote myself a really good reference! Hope that's okay?!
