Everyday Heroes We're Proud to Support: Neville Milne

Caylie Jeffery 19/Jul/2016

When we think of Country Australia, we picture vast spaces, red dogs, gum trees and sports. Lots and lots of sports! Football in particular. Rugby Union, Rugby League, AFL and Soccer.

When clubs like these first get up and running, it's often one or two motivated locals who rally others to join, seek playing fields and clubhouses, as well as applying for the significant funding to get everything going.

Neville Milne is one such man, also known as the founding father of Rugby Union in the Capella District.

Eddie Shaw, coach for the Cattledogs Rugby Union team in Capella, has sent in these fine words to support his club's nomination for an Honour Board in the name of Neville Milne...

The Capella Cattledogs Rugby Union would like to win an honour board and dedicate it to Neville Milne who was the founding father of rugby union in the Capella region.

In 1978 the Central Highlands Rugby Union was formed with three teams: The Blackwater Basilisks, Emerald Rams and Capella COUGARS.

Neville was responsible for forming the Cougars who went on to win Premierships in 1979 and 1980 before having to disband due to insufficient player numbers in 1982.

In 1992, Neville once again helped re-start the rugby club. He has been a tireless worker for not just rugby union but also, tennis, golf and horse racing.

At the recently held Capella Cattledogs 25th Anniversary celebrations Neville  was awarded with a Life Membership for his contribution to rugby union in the Capella District.

Neville has recently been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer so we believe that this would be a fitting tribute to his contribution to country sport.

Cheers,

Eddie Shaw

CAPELLA CATTLEDOGS COACH

Thank you for taking the time to enter our competition, Eddie. Yours words certainly honour Neville.

Neville has worked incredibly hard and played harder to get Rugby Union up and running in his local district over many years, and now, he faces some very difficult and serious health challenges.

We send our support and well-wishes to to Neville and his family and friends, knowing that you will all be standing together as he faces an uncertain future.
